Have you heard the latest about lymphatics?? Yes, it's called the glial lymphatic system or glymphatics for short. Read here to see how the latest in glial lymphatics may be helping in the area of Alzheimer's: http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/news/story/index.cfm?id=3870

By far, the posts on my blog that have received the most hits have been those on detoxification. Many requests have been received for more information on this valuable topic. So to that end, I want to bring you the material from the experts. The following is taken from Dr. Jerry's Blog at: http://mendingautism.com/articles/let%e2%80%99s-talk-about%e2%80%a6methylation-glutathione-and-vitamin-b12/
"The Methylation Pathway seems to be linked to many chronic diseases, including the autism that many children are diagnosed with. A “pathway” merely describes a factory that produces a product. The Methylation factory produces glutathione similar to the way a Ford Factory produces pick up trucks. Just like a truck factory requiring numerous steps to produce a finished product, the Methylation factory has lots of steps required before producing the finished product: glutathione.
Glutathione is very important in maintaining and restoring physical health, and even mental health. We know that children with autism tend to have lower levels of glutathione when compared to neurotypical children. We also know that families that genetically tend to have lower amounts of glutathione, that is, their factories just produce lower amounts of glutathione, also tend to have problems with schizophrenia, alcoholism, bi-polar disease, depression, attention deficit disorder, constipation, and autism. Glutathione is essential for protecting cells from toxins - it is our master anti-oxidant, and seems to play in FOCUS, CONCENTRATION, AND LANGUAGE.
We can actually increase our body’s ability to produce glutathione….even if we are genetically challenged! Dr. Jill James proved that we can increase the production of glutathione by supplying our Methylation factories with necessary key ingredients.
Methyl B12: this is vitamin B12 in its “methyl” form. It can be given with a nose spray, subcutaneous injection, or orally. It seems to work best for some in a nose spray (if the child tolerates it) or subcutaneous injection. Dosing is variable based on age and weight, and how you are going to administer it (intranasal or subcutaneous).
Vitamin B6: aides in the production of glutathione.
Folic acid: this is a B vitamin that works as a cofactor in the Methylation factory. This can be combined in the B12 injection or in the nasal spray. For some children this can be rather activating and can cause hyperactivity, and thus will have to be removed.
Dimethylglycine: also known as DMG. DMG also supports the Methylation pathway as a “methyl donor”.
Trimethylglycine: also known as TMG. TMG is DMG plus another methyl group. Again, we are trying to provide the assembly line of the factory an “incentive” to make more glutathione.
Methionine: an amino acid that can be considered the “chassis” or the starting molecule that can eventually be transformed to glutathione
N-acetyl cysteine: also known as NAC. This is precursor for cysteine and glutathione
In addition to providing supplements to aid in the production of glutathione, you can also supplement glutathione directly. It can be given as an IV infusion, inhaled with a nebulizer, rubbed in as a cream, and orally (which I usually do not recommend since it seems to enhance the growth of yeast).
Improving the function of the Methylation pathway impacts many functions of the cell, right down to how DNA is read. What the parents report, and what we are commonly after, is the improvement of language! It appears that when we improve glutathione production, many children can make significant improvements with focus, concentration, and language. And that’s my approach to Methylation."

Hi all, Just wishing you and yours all the blessings of this Christmas Season!!!
In wishing you all health and happiness in the coming year, I would like to take a few moments to "unload" the mechanisms of detoxification. The best explanation that I could find is found in this article by Dr. Jerry Kartzinel entitled: "Let's Talk About... Methylation, Glutathione, and Vitamin B12".http://www.generationrescue.org/dr-jerry-s-blog/biomedical-intervention/let-s-talk-about-methylation-glutathione-and-vitamin-b12/

One health practitioner told me that she has never seen a cancer patient that did not have a highly toxic body. One could debate whether the cancer caused the toxicity or the toxicity caused the cancer, but most health professionals would agree that having a toxic body is a risk that no one should take.
Symptoms of ongoing toxicity may include acne, allergies, congestion, candida/yeast infections, parasites, eczema, fibrocystic breast disease, hypertension, kidney problems, obesity, headaches, bad breath, constipation, sensitivity to the environment or chemicals, hives, indigestion, joint pain, nausea, and more. Some digestive problems such as parasites and candida can also increase intestinal permeability and lead to a condition known as leaky gut syndrome where food and other undigested and sometimes toxic matter leaks into the bloodstream. The liver, lungs, kidney, intestines, and skin are the primary elimination organs. The better we treat them, the better they treat us.
As someone suffering with a chronic illness, detoxification is a key part of my ongoing health program. Many of us with Lyme disease carry around a significant burden of neurotoxins which are created from the Lyme disease organisms themselves. In addition, it is almost a given that someone with a chronic illness has some degree of metal toxicity, generally including mercury.
Genetics plays a key role in how effectively one can detoxify their body. It may be the case that those with poor genetics such as various HLA combinations or methylation problems are those of us that feel sick from chronic Lyme disease whereas others that detoxify properly may simply be asymptomatic carriers of the same microbes. I am of the belief that there are more people walking around with the Borrelia organism which causes Lyme disease than those that actually manifest symptoms of the disease itself. The difference between the two is likely genetics and ability to detoxify.
As always, you should consult with your doctor before making any changes to your current regimen. However, the following are the things that I utilize for helping my body with the process of detoxification.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2009, the meager 650 industrial chemicals reported in the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) that were non-PBT chemicals totaled 19.4 billion pounds**. These chemicals find their way into our water, air, soil and eventually into our bodies on a daily basis. Most of these environmental toxins are known to cause oxidative damage in cells and tissues which then activate inflammatory cytokines in the body. The cytokines are initiated by the immune system and therefore we see the interplay between toxins, the immune system and inflammation in the body. Additionally, our body's natural, physiological functions produce endogenous toxins which must be neutralized, excreted, or otherwise managed on a regular basis. Whether you consider yourself to be a conventional, complementary-alternative, or any other type of healthcare provider, this webinar will allow you to see the importance of how toxins substantially influence our health including the musculoskeletal system. Many of our patients have become appropriately concerned about these issues as well as the potential risks posed by conventional treatment. Think of how many Rx meds have been taken off the market or restricted in the past few years. NSAIDs and COX IIs now have "black box warnings". The public has increasingly been seeking out alternatives and this webinar will help you to provide them with natural options to address their concerns. **http://cfpub.epa.gov/eroe/index.cfm?fuseaction=detail.viewInd&lv=list.listByNewest&r=235289&subtop=312Featured Speaker: Robert Davis, D.O.
